Setup, troubleshooting, and how to reach us

Getting set up

How do I connect Nitro Photos to a server?

On first launch, choose Create Account and enter the address of the server you want to use — this can be one running on the same Mac or elsewhere on your network. Nitro Photos creates the one administrator account for that server and shows you a one-time recovery phrase. Save it somewhere safe; the server can't show it to you again.

How do I pair my phone?

From your Mac, open the pairing step after signing in (or from the Server tab at any time). Your phone shows a short code — enter it on the Mac to approve the device. Once approved, the phone finishes pairing on its end and starts syncing.

You can review and revoke any paired device from the Server tab at any time.

I forgot my password. Now what?

Password recovery is handled by the server, not by Nitro, using the recovery phrase you saved during setup along with your account's email address. If you don't have the recovery phrase, the server administrator will need to reset the account directly.

Troubleshooting

My devices aren't syncing.

Confirm both devices can reach the same server address, and that the device hasn't been revoked from the Server tab. If a sync is stuck mid-transfer, use the Cancel control in the import overlay and try again — an interrupted sync restarts cleanly rather than resuming a partial file.

An import or export failed with no obvious reason.

Check the error message shown in the editor or import overlay — failures there (unsupported file type, a full disk, a permissions issue) are reported directly rather than failing silently. If nothing is shown and something still looks wrong, get in touch below with the details.

Does Nitro Photos ever send my photos anywhere else?

Only to the server you configured, and only to an AI provider if you've explicitly added an API key for tagging. See the privacy policy for the full breakdown.
